"Welcoming the Sun" is an intuitively sensitive space, combining contemporary dance, ethno-vocal and electronic music. The harmony of coexistence of so different art elements is rather fragile and unstable, but the idea was so tempting that the authors accepted the challenge!
Thought to create a piece at the intersection of ethno music and contemporary dance came to Irena Kotvitskaya. Meeting with choreographer Inna Aslamova gave the inspiration to collaborate and allowed to embody the idea.
During the process the artists worked with female energy that was changing the quality of body and space. Avoiding mental decisions they were sensitive to their bodies, feelings and intuition.
As an ethnomusicologist Irena researches music of oral female tradition of Belarus. Pagan ritual voice is a way to save a proper order, harmony and cosmos of traditional community. Is the action at the interface of tradition and contemporary able to change audience’s perception of themselves and the space?
“Welcoming the Sun” project invites everyone who is ready to plunge into the world of feelings, sensations, and associations. This is a journey into a plan of subtle spiritual experience beyond logic and control.
